Help Please!!!!Mystical Creatures - half human!!?

I'm trying to work on a book. And I need a list of Mystical characters to chose from, for one of the main characters. I was wondering if anyone knew of any lists, or if they could post some here? And by mystical characters, i mean like vampires, mermaids, like half-human creatures. thanks :) I'd use vampires.. but im afraid people would think im copying twilight.. anything similar?
